Knoll Designer Bios

Gianfranco Frattini

b. Italy
1926-2004

A graduate in architecture from Milan Politecnico, Gianfranco Frattini first explored industrial design when he was unable to source suitable lighting and furniture for his interiors. In 1956 he co-founded the ADI, Associazone per il Disegno Industriale. During his distinguished career, he collaborated with Gio Ponti, worked for Cassina and Acerbis, designed lamps for Artemide, and was a board member of the Triennale di Milano.

In 1988 Knoll introduced the Frattini executive collection. Even while Knoll was gaining market share and notoriety in the general office market, products like the Frattini Collection continued the Knoll legacy of high-style executive offerings from world class architects and designers.
